Explore workplace carpooling

Fuel costs are rising. Forward-thinking employers are already responding.

With petrol at record highs and 91% of your employees still driving alone, the commute has become one of the most expensive parts of your team’s working day. KINTO Join gives them a smarter way, and gives you the data to prove the impact.

Your employees are paying more to get to work than ever before

Getting to work has become one of the most expensive things your team does every day. Fuel costs are the second-biggest commuting frustration among UK and Irish workers, and with global energy markets in turmoil, the pressure is only growing.

But the cost isn’t just landing on your employees’ wallets. It’s landing on your organisation too in ways that aren’t always visible until the damage is done.

What a bad commute is quietly costing your business

€2500+

is what the average car commuter spends on fuel alone each year – and that number is rising!

UK workers would accept a pay cut for a better commute. In Ireland, 35% are actively looking for a new job to get one. In both markets, the commute is now a talent issue.

are more likely to stay in a job with better commuting support – making this a direct retention lever

91%

of employees who commute by car in Ireland, are still driving alone. In the UK, 48% of all commuters drive alone to work – a massive untapped opportunity.

find their daily commute stressful, and that stress doesn’t stop at the car park barrier

See what KINTO Join carpooling could deliver in practice

Picture this: 950 employees, most of them driving to work alone. We mapped their routes, identified who could share a ride, and ran the numbers. At the time of the audit, 71% drove to work, 25% used public transport, and only 4% carpooled.

Our analysis identified that 110 employees (around 12% of the workforce) shared viable routes and could realistically carpool together. If those employees all carpooled, here is what the company could save.

These figures are based on KINTO Join’s mobility audit. The numbers above are what this particular company could achieve. Yours will be different. Contact us to find out.

FAQs

  • There is no infrastructure to build and no buses to procure. Once your organisation signs up, employees download the KINTO Join app, enter their home location and shift hours, and the platform starts matching them with colleagues on compatible routes. Most organisations are live within a matter of weeks.
  • Yes. Employees set their own working hours and pick-up preferences in the app, and the matching algorithm finds compatible colleagues based on those individual schedules. It works across shift patterns, hybrid arrangements, and flexible working — employees can also change their pick-up location for any given journey, for example if they need to drop children to school first.
  • No. The app handles matching automatically. Employees set their destination, and the app identifies colleagues nearby who have already started a journey in the same direction. They simply tap the driver icon on the map to connect. Employees can also browse available carpools by date through the Bookings section.
  • Privacy is built into the platform. Each employee’s location pin is placed randomly within a 20–50 metre radius of the address they enter, so their exact home address is never visible to other users. Employees can also use any pick-up point they choose, it does not have to be their home. All data is handled in full compliance with GDPR.
  • Every journey is verified in real time using GPS. The app tracks the journey from start to destination and confirms that a passenger was present. This means you receive accurate, auditable data on carpooling activity — not self-reported estimates — which feeds directly into your ESG and Scope 3 reporting.
  • Cost-sharing arrangements are agreed directly between employees and are not processed through the app. This keeps the platform simple, avoids payment compliance complexity, and means employees retain full control over how they arrange contributions. In practice, most carpoolers agree a regular split informally once a routine is established.
  • Carpooling scales to any size. It’s actually more effective for SMEs and rural-site employers because employees often share longer commutes from similar areas. KINTO Join is low-cost to launch and requires no capital investment.
  • Parking is a facility, not a benefit. With fuel costs at record highs, employees are actively looking for ways to reduce what they spend getting to work. Carpooling cuts that cost directly, and 53% say they’d use a company app to do it.
  • Every carpooled journey is tracked and quantified. KINTO Join gives you real emissions reduction data, not just estimates. That feeds directly into your Scope 3 commuter emissions reporting. With transport accounting for over 21% of Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions (and passenger vehicles nearly half of that), commuting is one of the highest-impact areas you can act on.
